4.4 Line Chart
Line charts are used when you want to show how something changes over time. You can then follow the development in the diagram and read trends.

Here below, you see an example:

You have investigated how many newborn babies have received the name Petra and Dante during the 8 year period, 1998-2005. The information is shown in the following frequency table and then in a line chart.

When you draw the diagram, you begin by plotting the points from the table.  Then you connect them with a line.

In a line chart, we always use the horizontal (lying down) axis to show the time and the vertical (standing) axis to show the number of observations.
