3.1 Averages
(Translation Note: In everyday English, we tend to use the word average as a look at a central tendency for certain events or mean.  In mathematical terminology, however, this word covers several types of statistical information which will be covered below.)
Averages are used to summarise, compare or describe statistics.  You can for example compare the mean age in different countries and make inferences about how medical care and eating habits look in different countries.  We can also compare wages and housing prices with the help of averages.  In the insurance industry, averages are often used to clarify patterns in studies.

The three averages that we will examine are mean, median, and mode.
