4.5 Square Roots
Now we will work more with square roots and algebra. If you know that you need to repeat square roots, you can do so by reviewing Operators and Calculation rules, chapter 7.

You know that = 6? Maybe you even know that = x^{1/2}

and because = = 6^{2/2 } = 6^{1 }= 6

must = x^{2/2 } = x^{1 }= x

and then must = · = 6 · x = 6x

When we calculate with roots, we can also calculate cubic roots, (the third root), fourth roots, fifth roots and so forth of a number.

= 2 because 2^{3} = 2 · 2 · 2 = 8

= 2^{3/3 } = 2^{1 }= 2

Here below you see two examples of problems which are first expressed by number and then by using the variables: a and b.
