4.2 Multiplication
As you hopefully know, a variable can take on different values.

We can show a few examples to compare multiplication and multiplication with variables.

How do we simplify/calculate then 2x3 · 3x4?

2x3 · 3x4 = 2 · (x · x · x) · 3 · (x · x · x · x) = 2 · 3 · x3+4 = 6x7

We try by multiplying together the terms that have different signs:

3x3 · (- 4x2) = 3 · (x · x · x) · (-4) · (x · x) = 3 · (-4) · x3+2 = -12x5
