Adding Opposite Numbers
Earlier, we have learned about opposite numbers and now we will look at what happens when we add opposite numbers:
-5 + 5 = (-5) + (+5) = ?
We look at the number line:
-5 + 5 = (-5) + (+5) = 0
Answer: 0
We switch the example:
5 + (-5) = (+5) + (-5) = ?
On the number line, it looks like this:
5 + (-5) = (+5) + (-5) = 0
