    2.5 Negative Numbers and Direction
    In chapter 2.3, we looked at opposite numbers and showed these examples:
    • The Dead Sea lies 392 meters under sea level. The opposite level is 392 meters above sea level.

    • Greg Raymer won 25 million in the Poker World Championships.  The opposite is to lose 25 million.  


    We have already named that the numbers to the right increase and the numbers to the left decrease.

    Example:
    If you are to take +4 steps on the number line, you take 4 step to the right.
    If you are to take -4 steps on the number line, you take 4 step to the left.

    If we start on +1 in both of these cases, where do we end up?
