5.1 Percentage Points
It is important to differ between the concepts percent and percentage points. Percentage points are used to indicate the difference between two numbers in percent form.

In a school, 350 students have grades. Of these 70 students have VG. The year after, 84 receive VG.

By how many percentage points has the number of students with the grade VG increased?

70 of 350 = 20 %
84 of 350 = 24 %

The change in percentage points: 24 - 20 = 4

The Answer: The number of students with the grade VG increased by 4 percentage points.
