3.1 Fraction Size

To get a feeling for the size of a fraction, it is a good idea if you can compare and order by size fractions.

Example
We begin with a whole number.

2
< 5 2 is less than 5.
6
> 3

6 is greater than 3.

If you have just one part of a whole then: the larger the denominator the lesser the fraction.

< < <

If the fraction has the same denominator, then it is the numerator that determines the size.  The fraction that has the largest number of parts, in other words, the largest numerator, is greater than the one who has less.
